The Cincinnati Reds select Jay Allen with the 30th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft
The Reds love them some position players and got their second one of the evening.
With the 30th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Cincinnati Reds selected outfielder Jay Allen out of John Carroll High School in Florida.
The Reds already selected Matt McLain earlier this evening and now they added another position player, but this one from the high school ranks who possesses a nice all-around toolset in Jay Allen.
Allen oozes athleticism as a multi-sport star in high school. Against quality competition this season, he was spraying line drives all over the field and makes hard contact with regularity. He is more quick than fast and there is some concern that he ends up in a corner outfield spot which puts a lot of pressure on the bat. That said, it is easy to see why the Reds would want to bet on Allen’s athleticism long-term. With some pro coaching and maybe even more physical development, he could see upgrades to his tools across the board.
