The best smartphone chargers

Table of Contents: Masthead Sticky
  • Not all phones come with chargers anymore, and when they do, they're rarely the fastest chargers out there.
  • It's worth upgrading your phone chargers to get the fastest and most convenient charging.
  • As for the best smartphone charger, we recommend the Anker PowerPort III Nano.

These days, there are a few different ways you can charge your phone. You could use a good old fashioned wired charging cable and charging brick, which will ensure that your phone charges as fast as possible. Or, you could use a wireless charger, which is more convenient, and will still be fast enough for things like charging your phone overnight and while you're working at your desk.

Of course, some charging bricks, cables, and pads are better than others. It's not just about looks either. For example, a charging brick that supports fast-charging standards will ensure your phone charges as quickly as possible. The same goes for wireless chargers, which while naturally slower for safety reasons are getting faster still within those limitations. And, of course, the best charging cables will be more durable - and we've all experienced weak cables breaking at the worst moment.

Because charging accessories can vary so wildly in quality, it can be hard to find the ones that are perfect for your needs. Whether you just need a new charging cable, or you want to completely deck out your home in fast charging tech, here are the best smartphone chargers you can buy.

Here are the best smartphone chargers of 2021

The best deals on phone chargers from this guide

Sometimes, the included phone charger just doesn't cut it. They're typically prone to breaking, bending, and are often slower to juice up your devices. Luckily, discounts on these gadgets are quite common, and it's easy to pick them up for less than their retail price. Anker and RAVPower, for example, are often available with coupons and Deal of the Day price cuts from Amazon, giving them discounts up to $10. During the holiday season and Amazon Prime Day, these deals are much more common.

Below, find our top deals on phone chargers, from cables to individual stations to ones designed for your car.

And, the best part: you can enjoy the convenience of saving money and ordering from Amazon. Here are the best discounts we found during Amazon Prime Day 2021.

The best charging cables
A black Anker Powerline+ III cable on a black table next to a phone and a laptop

The Anker PowerLine+ III cables offer a strong braided nylon build, plus they're available in a range of different formats and colors.

Pros: Strong build, range of different colors and connector types

Cons: Only supports USB 2.0

Anker has long built some of the best charging cables out there, and the Anker PowerLine+ III series is no exception to that rule. These cables are durable, colorful, and they come with USB-A, USB-C, and Lightning connectors.

The durability of these cables is easily one of the best things about them. The braided nylon exterior ensures that the cables are extremely strong, and won't break without significant effort. The main point of failure could be where the braided nylon and connector meet – but in our testing, even that section seemed very strong.

Not only are Anker's PowerLine+ III cables extremely durable, but they're available in a range of different formats too. You'll get USB-A to Lightning, and USB-C to USB-C, and USB-C to Lightning, so no matter what you're looking for, there should be something for you. Not only that, but the cables are also available in a few different colors, and in lengths of either 3 feet or 6 feet.

Anker PowerLine+ III cables are high-quality, but they're not perfect. For charging, they're easily the best out there – but for data transfer, they only support USB 2.0 and not newer USB 3 or USB 4 standards. They're also relatively expensive, so if you want to buy a bunch of them, you may end up paying quite a bit. Still, despite those issues, the PowerLine+ III cables easily beat out the competition.

The best wall charger
The Anker PowerPort III Nano on a white background

The Anker PowerPort III Nano supports fast charging tech, and is small enough to not create an eye-sore or block other outlets when it's plugged in.

Pros: Small and portable, relatively inexpensive, supports fast charging

Cons: Only one port

If you're looking for a high-end charger that will get your phone juices up as quickly as possible, then the Anker PowerPort III Nano is easily the way to go.

One of the best things about the Anker PowerPort III Nano is how small it is. The PowerPort III Nano measures in at only 1.8 x 1.1 x 1.1 inches, so you won't even notice it in a bag or backpack, plus plugging it in won't mean covering up a second outlet.

Despite the small size, the PowerPort III Nano is still able to deliver plenty of power for your phone. It supports the iPhone's 20W fast-charging, which means that it should be able to charge an iPhone 12 from 0% to 50% in only 25 minutes. Note, this charger isn't quite the right pick if you're looking for something for your laptop – for that, you'll need something a bit heftier.

In our testing, the Anker PowerPort III Nano was indeed able to charge a phone extremely fast, plus the small size makes it much more convenient for most use. The size does mean that it only has one USB port, so if you need more, you'll need to look elsewhere.

The best wireless charger
An iPhone sitting on the Belkin BoostCharge charging pad

The Belkin BoostCharge wireless charging pad charges your iPhone or Galaxy device as fast as possible, plus it's relatively sleek and stylish too.

Pros: Fast charging, non-slip rubber, well-designed

Cons: A little thick, expensive

Wireless chargers are much more convenient than wired ones. Just chuck your phone on the charging pad and pick it up when you want to use it again, all charged up. But it's only convenient if you get the right wireless charger — and the best out there right now is the Belkin BoostCharge wireless charger pad.

There are plenty of things that make the BoostCharge wireless charger pad a great product. For starters, it nails all the basics — it has rubber feet on the bottom to prevent the pad from slipping, and it has rubber pads on the top to prevent your phone from slipping. On the front, there's an LED light to indicate when there's a phone charging, and on the back there's a USB-C port — not a MicroUSB port. And, in the box the charger comes with a charging brick to power it all.

The BoostCharge wireless charger pad goes further than that too — notably through the fact that it supports wireless charging of up to 15W. That means it can support the iPhone's fast wireless charging of 7.5W, and some Android phones' fast wireless charging of 12W — and it's future proof to ensure you'll be able to take advantage of faster charging speeds when phones support them.

The device isn't' badly designed either — though it's not the prettiest device ever built. The BoostCharge wireless charger pad comes in either black or white, and while it's a little thicker than some wireless chargers, the faster charging speed is worth that trade-off. I've been using the charging pad for a while now, and in day-to-day use, you won't notice a difference between it and thinner pads in your home. At $40, the device is also a little more expensive than some.

The best car charger
The Anker PowerDrive Speed 2 plugged into a car console charing a phone

The Anker PowerDrive Speed+ 2 offers one USB-C and one USB-A port, plus it supports fast-charging tech for most phones.

Pros: Fast-charging support, two ports, well-designed

Cons: A bit bulky, expensive

Running out of battery when you're driving can be tough, but a car charger helps get around that issue. With the right car charger, your phone will be more charged up when you get to your destination than when you left – and in our testing, the best one is the Anker PowerDrive Speed+ 2

There are a few things that make this such a great car charger. For starters, it has two ports in it, so you don't have to worry about leaving your passenger chargeless. The two ports include one USB-C port and one USB-A port.

Even better is the fact that the device supports fast charging. The PowerDrive Speed+ 2 can charge at up to a hefty 30W, so it will easily fast-charge your phone, and other devices like a Nintendo Switch or even a laptop. The charger offers Anker's PowerIQ 2.0 tech, which means it supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 devices. Coupled with support for iPhone fast charging, the device should be able to fast charge most modern phones. The device also has a ring of blue light around its face to help you find it quickly and easily, even in the dark.

So what about downsides? Well, in our testing we found that the charger was a little large, though it still fits in most car chargers. It's worth checking to make sure there's enough space near your car's 12V socket. The other downside is that the charger costs a little more than most others – but if you can afford it, it's worth the cost.

The best charging station
Satechi Dock5 charging station

The Satechi Dock5 is well-designed and has enough room for five devices, including larger tablets, and wirelessly-charged devices like your AirPods Pro.

Pros: Well-designed, four charging ports and wireless charging,

Cons: Doesn't come with charging cables

If you're anything like me, you have devices all over the place – and it can be challenging to keep them all charged up. That's where a charging station comes in – to ensure that your devices stay easily charged up and ready for use.

The Satechi Dock5 supports up to five devices. There are four ports on the side, including two USB-A ports and two USB-C ports, plus a wireless charging surface on the front of the dock. On the top, you'll get four slots to place your tablets and phones. It's a good look and easy to use.

The Satechi Dock5 isn't necessarily built for quickly topping up your phone, but they still support relatively fast charging. The two USB-C ports support charging at up to 20W each, and the two USB-A ports at up to 12W each. The wireless charging pad supports charging up to 10W.

The Satechi Dock5 is a great product, but it's not necessarily perfect. For example, the device doesn't come with any charging cables – so you'll have to buy them separately. And, some docks have more ports for charging, so if you really need to charge a lot of devices, it's worth considering one of those docks. But for most who need a dock, the Satechi Dock5 is the way to go thanks to its great design and wireless charging port.
