The UK’s largest Jewish charity has been sabbotaged on social media by pro-Palestinian activists.
Norwood supports autistic children in the community, pupils with special educational needs and their families.
It has nothing to do with the conflict between Israel and Palestine, but that didn’t stop people from targeting its social media accounts.
A Palestinian flag replaced its logo on Instagram, while sabboteurs also posted a picture of someone waving the tricolour.
A caption with the post read: ‘From the river to the sea Palestine will be free!’
The London-based charity’s Twitter account was also hacked with another message, saying: ‘Free Palestine!! End Zionist aparheid.’
A spokesperson for Norwood told Metro.co.uk: ‘We became aware that Norwood’s Instagram account was breached on Thursday afternoon with content posted from the Free Palestine movement.
‘As a British charity, our duty is to support vulnerable members of the British Jewish community and, as such, we condemn as abhorrent all hate crimes.
‘Norwood stands for inclusivity regardless of our differences and we endorse Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s recent statement that there is no place for antisemitism in British society.’
Director of Policy for the Community Security Trust, Dave Rich, said: ‘Hacking a charity that serves Jewish people with learning disabilities to post this propaganda is absolutely sick and we condemn it utterly.
‘It is terrible we have come to this, but every Jewish organisation should check that their social media accounts are protected by strong passwords and two-factor authentication to avoid similar antisemitic targeting.’
It comes after a surge in attacks on Jewish people in the UK following Israel’s reccent 11-day clash with Hamas militants in Gaza.
A man was arrested in Golders Green, north London, on Friday for allegedly attacking a car displaying an Israeli flag.
On May 16 a rabbi was attacked and robbed as he was coming out of a synagogue in Chigwell, Essex and needed hospital treatment.
That same day, a convoy of vehicles displaying Palestinian flags was filmed driving through London, with one passenger saying ‘F**k the Jews, rape their daughters’ through a loudspeaker.
Responding to a question in the Commons, the Prime Minister said: ‘I share his horror at the outbreak of anti-Semitic incidents and the government has conveyed that message loud and clear to those who are responsible for enforcing the law against hate crime.
‘As a country and as a society … we call this out at every stage. We will not let it take root, we will not allow it to grow and fester.’
