Tottenham next manager: Pochettino ODDS-ON favourite for Spurs job after Daniel Levy talks, Zidane & Conte in the mix

MAURICIO POCHETTINO is the ODDS-ON favourite to be appointed Tottenham’s next permanent manager.

That’s according to bookmakers Betfair, who’ve slashed their price on the Argentine filling the vacant managerial position in North London.

Pochettino WAS available at 4/1 on Tuesday morning, but that price has shortened markedly to 8/11 over the past few hours.

Tottenham’s search for a new appointment has been turbulent to say the least.

First-choice target Julian Nagelsmann snubbed Daniel Levy’s advances and joined Bayern Munich before Ajax’s Erik ten Hag penned a contract extension in Amsterdam.

Nuno Espirito Santo, Maurizio Sarri and Jurgen Klinsmann have all been considered favourites by the bookies in the five weeks since Jose Mourinho’s departure.

But their odds have now drifted with Pochettino the frontrunner.

The Argentine led Spurs in two close-run campaigns for the Premier League title and the Champions League final before his dismissal in November 2019.

The Athletic claim Levy has now opened talks with the Paris Saint-Germain manager, who is ‘attracted’ to the idea of a Tottenham homecoming.

Next permanent Tottenham manager – Betfair

  • Mauricio Pochettino – 8/11
  • Antonio Conte – 5/1
  • Erik ten Hag – 6/1
  • Roberto Martinez – 9/1
  • Graham Potter – 11/1
  • Brendan Rodgers – 14/1
  • Nuno Espirito Santo – 14/1
  • Zinedine Zidane – 17/1
  • Jurgen Klinsmann – 18/1

Poch won the French Super Cup and the Coupe de France but lost in the Champions League semi-finals to Manchester City and watched as Lille wrestled the title away for only the second time in nine seasons.

But it could be a tricky one to pull off with the 49-year-old’s contract running until June 2022 and PSG hesitant to appoint yet another new boss.

Following closely at 5/1 is Antonio Conte, who was a whopping 20/1 just a few days ago.

The fiery Italian has decided to leave Inter Milan just three weeks after guiding the club to their first Serie A title in 11 years.

The two parties have been unable to agree on a clear project with Conte demanding investment and Inter desperate to generate over £70m in player sales.

The 51-year-old, who revealed some months ago that he’s open to a return to English football, will receive £6million in compensation and will become a free agent.

Ten Hag and Belgium manager Roberto Martinez are next in the market, priced at 6/1 and 9/1 respectively while Brighton’s Graham Potter remains on the short-list at 11/1.

Zinedine Zidane is a new contender for the vacant position at 17/1 with the Frenchman set to leave Real Madrid for the second time.

Free agent Nuno Espirito Santo is 14/1 along with Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klinsmann completes the nine-runner field at 18/1.
