The Spanish heavyweights today confirmed Zidane’s exit for the second time in his managerial career.
The 48-year-old won three consecutive Champions League titles and a La Liga title in his first spell at the Bernabeu.
However, he finished the 2020-21 campaign without any silverware and conceded the title to neighbours Atletico.
Zidane was contracted until June 2022 but he decided to cut ties with Real, who’ve accepted his resignation.
Their official statement read: “Real Madrid announces that Zinedine Zidane has decided to bring an end to his current spell as head coach of our club.
“We must now respect his decision and express our gratitude for his professionalism, dedication and passion over the years and what he means to Real Madrid.

“He is aware that he has a place in the hearts of the Real Madrid fans and that he will always have a home at Real Madrid.”
With Zidane out of the picture, attentions have turned to his successor and Conte is the standout favourite.
The Italian has decided to leave Inter Milan just three weeks after guiding the club to their first Serie A title in 11 years.

The two parties have been unable to agree on a clear project with Conte demanding investment and Inter desperate to generate over £70m in player sales.
The 51-year-old is now a free agent.
And Real Madrid have wasted little time in making ‘big manoeuvres’ for his signature, according to French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi.
He tweeted: “Real Madrid have started the big manoeuvres for Zinedine Zidane’s succession.
“Several coaches are on the list. Discussions have started between Real Madrid management and Antonio Conte’s entourage.”
Betfair think Pochettino is a 4/1 possibility after reports he’s unhappy in Paris – although he’s odds-on to return to Tottenham.
Club legends Raul and Guti are next in the betting at 11/2 and 12/1 with Joachim Low and Thomas Tuchel locked together at 25/1.
