Top jockey Rossa Ryan suffers broken collarbone in fatal incident at Wolverhampton
UP and coming jockey Rossa Ryan suffered a broken collarbone during a fatal fall at Wolverhampton.
The 20-year-old sits second in the race to become Champion Jockey but could now be out for a major chunk of this campaign.
Ryan has already ridden 15 winners this season[/caption]Ryan was riding Imajorblush on the all weather when the horse came down and was fatally injured.
Phil Kirby’s horse had to be put down after the mile-and-a-half handicap.
Ryan said on social media: “I’m gutted to have broken my collarbone in a fall at Wolverhampton this evening when riding Imajorblush who very sadly sustained a fatal injury in the final furlong.
“It’s always devastating to lose a horse and my thoughts are with all his connections – his owners, Zoe and George Hassall, and trainer Philip Kirby and all his team.

“I’m waiting to find out more about the severity of my injury and the next steps for my recovery. Thank you for all the messages of concern and support.”
Ryan has made a flying start to the campaign as retained rider to growing operation AMO Racing.
He’s partnered plenty of winners for young gun trainer George Boughey and was beginning to build plenty of momentum.
Oisin Murphy is leading by six on 21 winners, but a host of jockeys including Will Buick, James Doyle and Danny Tudhope are all on 15.

Ryan told us as the season started: “I set out a stall last year riding for Ralph Beckett and Richard Hannon, just trying to pick up what I could.
“That developed and I managed to get a few winners, and at some of the smaller meetings some nice doubles and trebles.
“The link up with AMO Racing then gave me the nudge to move forwards, and find some nicer horses.
“Royal Ascot was a day I won’t forget. For such a bad year in everyone’s book because of the pandemic, it actually ended up being a great year for me.”
