Katie Price risks £5,000 fine as she lets her dogs run around the car on trip back from Leeds
KATIE Price has risked getting a £5,000 fine for letting her dogs run around the back of her car while driving.
The 42-year-old shared a video of Precious jumping all over the car, Sid sitting in a passenger seat and Blade moving around the back as her fiance Carl Woods drove her back from Leeds.
Pets should be restrained in a moving vehicle as they could cause accidents, near misses or emergency stops.
If they are unrestrained, the driver also faces invalidating their insurance.
Rule 57 of the Highway Code states: “When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly.
“A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars.”
And while disobeying the Highway Code doesn’t carry a direct penalty, drivers could be pulled over by police and fined up to £1,000 for driving without proper control if their pet distracts them.
That could be stepped up to failing to drive with due care and attention (careless driving) which carries a maximum fine of £5,000 and nine penalty points if the case goes to court.

To make matters worse, an insurer is likely to refuse a pay out in the event of an accident, leaving the driver with a sizeable damage repair bill.
