Jacob deGrom to be Placed on 10-Day IL

deGrom has been suffering from a tight right side recently. It caused him to be scratched from his start on Tuesday, and he was pulled after just five innings Sunday vs. the Diamondbacks. The MRI ultimately revealed no structural damage, but the team will still exercise caution and place him on the 10-day IL.
The Mets have not yet announced who will take his spot on the active roster, but their pitching depth is already pretty tapped. Carlos Carrasco and Noah Syndergaard remain on the IL, so guys like David Peterson and Joey Lucchesi are already in the rotation. Sean Reid-Foley or Robert Gsellman are the most likely candidates to enter the starting lineup in place of deGrom, but the team could also use Miguel Castro as an opener. Either way, expect the bullpen to carry a heavy workload for the team with three starters on the IL.
The Mets have won five straight games, propelling them to first place in the NL East. They’re currently listed as +120 to win the division on FanDuel Sportsbook.
