Though it may be easy to write Amazon Prime off as another frivolous subscription cost, being a member is full of perks and benefits that in the end can save you money.
For those that are EBT or Medicaid cardholders, you can sign up for a Prime Membership at 50% off, bringing the rate down from $12.99 per month (or $119 per year) to $5.99 per month for qualified users. For a membership that includes a streaming service, same-day grocery delivery, two-day shipping, and much more, that's a steal.
If you are ineligible for the EBT or Medicaid cardholder discount, another way to save on membership is to sign up for Amazon Prime Student if you have an active .edu email address.

In addition to free next-day or two-day shipping on millions of items, Amazon Prime can you save money on essentials like groceries, diapers, and baby food - not to mention trips to the store. It's also worth noting that Amazon now accepts SNAP EBT on qualifying grocery items.
With access to a massive library of TV shows, movies, and original content through Prime Video, membership can also help you cut the cord if you're still paying for cable or satellite TV. The cost of Prime with all of its features also matches that of other major streaming services alone.
Prime Day, Amazon's big two-day sale is another major benefit of having Amazon Prime. Members will have exclusive access to thousands of exclusive deals, many of which are just as good or better than Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.
Prime Day 2021's date has yet to be announced, but we expect it'll land sometime in June or July this year. It's expected to be an event of equally grand scale compared to previous years, filled with rare, short-lived sales on popular items including streaming devices, smart home speakers and displays, robot vacuums, and more.
