Yesterday was a whirlwind of a day for the New York Mets. After just getting through all the press stories on how and why Chili Davis and Tom Slater were fired, as well as the reactions from players, we found out that Jacob deGrom was going to be scratched from his start due to inflammation in his right side. Not a fun news day.
Then the Mets game against the Cardinals was postponed because of weather. So the Mets now get to play two games today. Luckily the Stro Show takes center stage in Game 1 of this doubleheader, as the Mets look to even this series against St. Louis.
Mets Lineup
- Francisco Lindor – SS
- Pete Alonso – 1B
- Michael Conforto – RF
- Kevin Pillar – LF
- Jeff McNeil – 2B
- James McCann – C
- Jonathan Villar – 3B
- Albert Almora Jr – CF
- Marcus Stroman – RHP
Cardinals Lineup

- Dylan Carlson – RF
- Paul Goldschmidt – 1B
- Nolan Arenado – 3B
- Paul DeJong – SS
- Tyler O’Neill – LF
- Harrison Bader – CF

- Kwang Hyun Kim – LHP
Marcus Stroman will take the ball first for the Mets today. On the season he has made five starts and pitched 29.0 innings with a 1.86 ERA, 2.70 FIP, 0.931 WHIP and a 212 ERA+.
Stroman bounced back after a rough start against the Nationals where he allowed five runs, four earned, in four innings pitched. His last time out against the Phillies, Stroman allowed two runs, both of which were unearned, over five innings from three hits and a walk, while striking out eight in a game the Mets lost 2-1.
This will be his second doubleheader start of the season. Last time he allowed no runs over six innings, against the Phillies. The Cardinals have the following numbers against him:
- Paul Goldschmidt 1-3
- Matt Carpenter 0-1, BB
- Nolan Arenado 1-6, K
Kwang Hyun Kim will be making his first career start against the Mets today, as he is in just his second season pitching in Major League Baseball. Kim has made three starts this year and has pitched 13.2 innings with a 3.29 ERA, 2.16 FIP, 1.317 WHIP and a 119 ERA+. His numbers look even better when you get into the game logs.
Kim opened the season allowing three runs over three innings against the Phillies. Since then he has allowed two runs over 10.2 innings from 12 hits and no walks while striking out 12.
Last year he made eight appearances and seven starts totaling 39.0 innings with a 1.62 ERA, 3.88 FIP, 1.026 WHIP and a 263 ERA+. The only member of the Mets to see him in a major league game is Albert Almora Jr. who is hitless in his only PA.
Game Notes
- Brandon Nimmo remains sidelined for the Mets with his finger injury, as he hasn’t been in the lineup since May 1st.
- Miguel Castro is set to start the second game of today’s doubleheader as the team’s opener, but manager Luis Rojas said that they could still use him in Game 1 if needed.
- Jordan Yamamoto was recalled from Triple-A yesterday and could make his Mets debut in Game 2 tonight.
- Sean Reid-Foley, who was optioned to Triple-A just yesterday, is still with the team as he will be the Mets 27th man for this doubleheader.
Let’s Go Mets!
