Mariah Carey Fangirls Over ‘Pose’ Using One of Her ’90s Classics in Final Season
Fans around the world are preparing to say goodbye by tuning in to the final season of Pose on FX — and one of those fans happens to be the Elusive Chanteuse herself, Mariah Carey. (Spoilers for season 3, episode 2 of Pose ahead.)
At the end of the latest episode of the show’s final season, Pray Tell (played by Billy Porter) decided to check himself into a rehabilitation center to sober up and begin to deal with his alcoholism — and as he did, Carey’s 1994 hit “Anytime You Need a Friend” played in the background, much to the delight of the show’s fans.
Pose co-creator Steven Canals took to Twitter on Monday to explain why the song was included in the episode; not only is it a classic from the year in which the new season takes place, but he’s also a Lamb at heart. “Ya’ll KNOW I love @MariahCarey. And of course one of my favorite songs is ‘Anytime You Need A Friend.’ So I had to use it this final season,” he wrote.
Carey responded with a retweet Tuesday, letting Canals know that the feeling is mutual. “And I love you,” she wrote. “Thank you so much for choosing ‘Anytime You Need A Friend’ for the show!!! I’m sending that lyrical sentiment to you right now! Here I am!!!”
“Anytime You Need a Friend” was the fifth and final single from Carey’s blockbuster 1993 album Music Box. It peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
