‘Has come on so much’ – Robinson urges Spurs to snap up player he trained with

Paul Robinson has spoken very highly of rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Nick Pope and admitted that he expects offers to come in for his former Burnley teammate this summer.

It has been suggested that this could be Hugo Lloris’ final season at Tottenham Hotspur, with the goalkeeper, who has 12 months left on his contract, being linked with a return to Ligue 1.

Pope is one of several names reportedly on Tottenham’s radar as the North Londoners look to replace their captain.

The likes of Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, West Brom’s Sam Johnstone (Daily Mail) and Lille’s Mike Maignan are also rumoured to be on Spurs’ shortlist.

The Burnley shot-stopper has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Premier League over the last few years and reports indicate that the 28-year-old is valued in excess of £30m.

Robinson certainly appears to be a big fan of Pope, admitting that the England international has improved significantly over recent seasons.

The former Spurs number one told Racing Post (as relayed by HITC): “We will see potentially some offers come in for him in the summer.

“There’s talk that Tottenham are looking at him if Lloris is to move on elsewhere.

“I rate Nick Pope. I trained with him a lot at Burnley. He has come on so much.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Pope is the best shot-stopper and the least error-prone out of all the goalkeepers we have been linked with. However, he is also poor with the ball at his feet. So, I am not sure that he would be a good fit for someone like Nagelsmann (should he replace Mourinho).

I do not expect us to spend big money on a goalkeeper this summer. I believe we are likely to sign someone like Sam Johnstone on a cut-price deal so that he can serve as Lloris’ understudy for a year or two before potentially taking over as the number one.
