Jose Mourinho is not having the greatest of times at the moment, with the former Spurs boss losing his job earlier this morning after 17 months in charge.
Although Tottenham have a League Cup final to look forward to in a weeks time, the writing always appeared to be on the wall for Mourinho as a top-four finish now looks out of the club’s reach.
Reports indicate that some Spurs stars were ‘fed up’ with Mourinho for blaming them for the team’s poor results.
If that is true, this certainly would not be the first time the Portuguese coach has fallen out with some of his players towards the end of his managerial reigns.
This includes his time at Real Madrid, which ended in sour fashion as the 58-year-old had arguments with club legends, Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas.
A feature in Thursday’s print edition of AS (as relayed by Sport Witness) looks back on the positives from the special one’s time at the Santiago Bernabeu and comes to the conclusion that signing Luka Modric from Spurs was his ‘great legacy’.
Now 35, Modric continues to be one of Los Blancos’ best players and the report indicates that the Croatian international is expected to sign another contract extension.
The article claims that Modric went AWOL at Tottenham in order to force Daniel Levy’s hand after Mourinho indicated that he wanted the midfielder.
The move by the former Spurs star is labelled ‘brave’ and his signing is described as the lasting impact Mourinho had at Real Madrid.

It is worth remembering that Modric actually struggled to make much of an impact in his first season at Madrid which was his only one under Mourinho. However, I, like most Spurs fans, never doubted his quality, having seen him dominate matches on a consistent basis at White Hart Lane. The 35-year-old has certainly gone on to fulfil his potential at Madrid and his form this season suggests that there could still be more to come from him.
