Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Detroit Pistons Predictions and Picks
After one glance at the Pistons injury report, I’m surprised they’d even be able to field a team. A total of seven players are ruled out for a multitude of ailments.
Detroit’s FanSided website has already dubbed this a tank game as the Pistons have now set their sights on finishing with the worst record in the Eastern Conference. The spread in this game has done a complete 180, with the Pistons originally opening as a 1.5-point favorite, only to now be catching 2.5 points as an underdog.
Last week, a number of my plays were targeting teams that already packed it in for the season, and on Saturday, I was back fading the Detroit Pistons, which ended up being a ho-hum win.
The Pistons are in full tank mode, ladies and gentlemen. And this latest injury report does little to prove otherwise. Sometimes it really is as simple as that —fading teams that are tanking late in the season.
I’m surprised the oddsmakers even opened with Detroit as a 1.5 point favorite, to be fair. Not only has Cleveland covered the spread in their last five meetings, but they’re also won as outright road underdogs in their last three meetings in Detroit.
I think this a game where the oddsmakers just fell asleep behind the wheel. It can happen from time to time, and the fact that Cleveland isn’t as high as a 4 to 4.5-point favorite screams VALUE to me on the visiting team. I don’t think I need to overthink this one, so I’ll stop writing and get to my mobile FanDuel SportsBook app and lay the 2.5 points with the Cavaliers before this line moves even higher.
The Pick: Cavaliers -2.5
