Utah Jazz vs. Los Angeles Lakers News and Notes
The Jazz and Lakers hook up in LA for what could be a preview to Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals after the pair met on Saturday. This game will look different than a WCF meeting would likely look as tonight’s matchup will be without LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Utah leading scorer Donovan Mitchell. Rudy Gobert is probable with a right knee issue, but it could very well be a meeting of two of the best teams in the west missing their top two players for a second straight game.
All four superstars missed Saturday’s Lakers win after Gobert became the latest player of the foursome to hit the injury list. The former defensive player of the year is, of course, the healthiest, rested on the weekend. Mitchell suffered a severe ankle sprain on Friday against the Pacers and is out at least a week, while Davis is expected to return from a long absence on Thursday. LeBron still looks to be about two weeks away with his ankle sprain.
Andre Drummond had his best game in a Lakers uniform in the 127-115 win. The former Piston put up 27 points, eight boards, two steals, and a block and should be heavily featured again tonight, especially if Gobert is out. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Dennis Schroder each scored 25 while
Markieff Morris had a 10-point 12-board double-double.
Joe Ingles started for the injured Mitchell and put up 20 points and a season-best 14 assists. Ingles is still available in about 40 percent of fantasy leagues and should be considered at FanDuel for $6300 tonight.
Jordan Clarkson got the start for Mike Conley, who was also rested and put up 27 in a game-high 46 minutes. Conley should be back in the lineup, so Clarkson’s playing time will take a hit. The heavy favorite at the FanDuel Sportsbook for Sixth Man of the Year will likely go back to the bench.
Utah has failed to cover in their past four games, which includes two outright losses, while LA has covered five of seven games. The over has been the play in four straight Lakers games following a cover and as the underdog, while Utah has gone under in five of six after a loss. Utah has failed to cover in their past four trips to LA and five of six overall head-to-head meetings.
