Castellanos was handed a two-game suspension for “aggressive actions and instigating a benches-clearing incident” vs. the Cardinals in the second game of the season. He appealed that decision, but ESPN’s Jeff Passan is reporting that his request has been denied. That means he will begin serving his suspension on Tuesday when the Reds start their new series vs. the Diamondbacks.
Castellanos has gotten off to a fantastic start this season. He’s hit five home runs through his first 15 games, and he’s posted a 151 wRC+. His production at the plate is a big reason why the Reds currently lead the league with an average of 6.07 runs per game.
The Reds have jumped out to a 9-6 record through their first 15 games, which gives them a 1.0-game lead over the Brewers and a 2.0-game lead over the Cardinals in the NL Central standings. Those three teams are expected to be neck-and-neck all season, and the Reds are listed at +220 to win the division on FanDuel Sportsbook.
