Utah Jazz Joe Ingles vs. Los Angeles Lakers
The Bet: Over 19.5 Points+Assists (+100)
Joe Ingles, who is still hanging around in about 40 percent of fantasy leagues is starting for the injured Donovan Mitchell for at least the following week. In his first start since the Jazz leading scorer went down on Friday against the Pacers, Ingles responded with 20 points on 43 percent shooting with six triples and a season-best, career-high-tying 14 assists.
The Australian will get a shot at a repeat performance against the Lakers after Utah’s 127-115 loss to LA on Saturday. Granted, starting point guard Mike Conley and Rudy Gobert were out, which could cut into his ball-handling and looks on Monday as they are expected to return.
While LA has been treading water since LeBron James and Anthony Davis have been out, they are clearly worse defensively without their superstars. LeBron is a five-time NBA All-Defensive First Team member, and Davis was the odds-on favorite at FanDuel’s Sportsbook to win this year’s Defensive Player of the Year award before going down with a strained Achilles back in mid-February. While LA has played well as far as holding teams scoring down, they still rank 15th in assists allowed per game.
Utah is a -7 point road favorite and -280 on the moneyline, and while lacking value, it’s hard to imagine them dropping two straight to the shorthanded Lakers if all Utah’s horses play tonight. The FanDuel Sportsbook’s total is a middling 215 with the expectation Gobert will be back in the middle to shore up the Jazz’s D.
San Antonio Spurs Jakob Poeltl vs. Indiana Pacers
The Bet: Over 19.5 Points+Rebounds (-120)
Jakob Poeltl has an appetizing matchup on Monday night that could become even tastier. Surprisingly Indiana has been a poor rebounding and defensive team even with Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis in the lineup. The Pacers give up the seventh-most points in the league and the eighth-most rebounds. It’s gotten worse since the All-Star break as Indiana has given up almost 118 points per game for a 27th ranking and has allowed the most boards in the league over that span.
It looks like Indiana will likely rest their two best players being on the second leg of a back-to-back. Turner leads the league in blocks by almost half a swat a game over Rudy Gobert, so the Spurs big man will have a much better time trying to score inside. Sabonis is fifth in the league in rebounds, pulling down 11.6 per game, so his presence can only hurt the Spurs center on the glass. At 6′ 11″, Turner is no slouch on the glass, grabbing 6.5 a game.
Poeltl is coming off a 17-point, eight-rebound performance against Portland on Friday in a game he played over 30 minutes. San Antonio is clinging onto the 10th, and final play-in spot in the west, so expect them to go full board for a win and give their big man a long leash on-court time tonight.
San Antonio is a -1 point road favorite and -118 on the moneyline. The total at the FanDuel Sportsbook is a chunky 231 points, so expect a higher scoring game.
