Siena women's soccer will meet Arizona State in NCAA Tournament
The Saints (6-0-2) earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s automatic bid by beating Monmouth 4-2 on penalty kicks in the championship game last Friday.
The players and coaches gathered at the UHY Center on Monday afternoon to watch the NCAA Tournament selection show.
“We’re excited to be playing and this was a great afternoon to come together to find out who we’re going to play,” said Siena head coach Steve Karbowski, a Saints and Shenendehowa graduate. “Don’t know much information about (Arizona State), being a West Coast school, so we’ll work on that right away, try to gather some information, some video if we can find it. It’s nice not having to play for another eight, nine days where we’ve got a full week of practice and rest up some players and look forward to the process of getting down there.”
Arizona State (8-5-2) of the Pac 12 ended its regular season on a three-match losing streak – all shutouts against Utah, Colorado and Arizona.
The winner of the Siena-Arizona State match will face ninth-seeded Duke in a second-round match at noon on May 1.
