[Baseball] McPherson Downs Falcons in Series Finale
WICHITA, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs used a big third inning Sunday (Apr. 18) to create separation en route to a 9-2 win over the Friends University Falcons at West Side Athletic Field.
Heading into the top of the third inning with a 1-0 lead, James Canar broke the game wide open with a grand slam before driving in two more in the fourth to lead 8-0.
The Falcons showed signs of life in the fifth inning when Pryce Anderson (SO/Coffeyville, Kan.) hit his first homer of the season, then Sam Engberg (FR/Kearney, Neb. ) followed with an RBI double that bounced off the left-field wall.
McPherson added to their lead in the seventh inning, scoring one more run to make it 9-2.
Austin Eggleston (SR/Arlington, Texas) came on in relief to throw four innings allowing just two hits and one run while striking out three batters. Engberg finished 2-for-3 at the dish for the Falcons with a double and an RBI.
The Bulldogs scored nine runs on just 11 hits, while the Falcons finished with two runs on six hits.
The Falcons will remain at West Side Athletic Field on Tuesday (Apr. 20), weather permitting, to conclude the season series with the Southwestern College Moundbuilders.
