“56th Academy of Country Music Awards” (8 p.m. Sunday, CBS): Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton are our hosts for this year’s festivities in Nashville. Once again, the show will originate from three iconic country music venues: the Grand Ole Opry House, the historic Ryman Auditorium and the Bluebird Cafe, and will feature performances from more than 25 of the genre’s biggest stars. As for the prizes, Maren Morris and Chris Stapleton lead the nomination list with six apiece.
“Biography: Stone Cold’ Steve Austin” (8 p.m., A&E): A&E’s 10-week programming partnership with the WWE begins with this documentary that traces the career and legacy of pro wrestling’s biggest, baddest star in the ’90s — the Texan whose fiery personality transformed him into a pop culture icon. Immediately following is “WWE’s Most Wanted Treasures.” WWE’s Stephanie McMahon and Paul “Triple H” Levesque launch a hunt for some of WWE’s most iconic missing memorabilia including Kane’s original mask, Ric Flair’s Butterfly Robe, Andre The Giant’s passport and more.
“American Idol” (8 p.m., ABC): The top 12 contestants perform Oscar-nominated songs in hopes of securing America’s vote into the top nine. Plus, Lionel Richie opens the show with a special performance of “Say You Say Me.”
“Godfather of Harlem” (9 p.m., Epix): Season 2 of the crime drama is set in 1964 and finds Bumpy Johnson (Forest Whitaker) trying to elude assassins and battling the New York crime families for control of the lucrative “French Connection.” It’s the pipeline for heroin that runs from Marseilles to New York Harbor. With a distribution syndicate that includes black crime bosses from other major U.S. cities, Bumpy takes a cue from his friend Malcolm X’s message of black economic nationalism. His ambitious plan will face challenges from not only the Italians but his wife Mayme, daughter Elise, rival Adam Clayton Powell, prosecutor Robert Morgenthau, and even Malcolm himself.
“Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” (9 p.m., NBC): Zoey gets more than she bargained for when she tries to help Emily with a problem. Maggie reconnects with an old friend. Max, Simon and Mo have a bonding night together.
“How It Really Happened with Hill Harper” (9 p.m., HLN): The popular crime and investigation series closes out its sixth season by taking viewers back to 1995 and a tragedy involving “The Jenny Jones Show.” It was a time when daytime talk television was on the rise and programs pushed the envelope with outrageous stunts and controversial guests. After three friends went on “The Jenny Jones Show” to reveal a secret crush, one of them ended up dead and another was charged with murder. What lead to the killing and why did one of the friends feel the spotlight was too hot?
“Confronting a Serial Killer” (9 p.m., Starz): This five-part documentary series tells the story of the unprecedented relationship between New York Times best-selling author and memoirist Jillian Lauren and the most prolific serial killer in American history, Samuel Little, and her race against time to identify his victims before it’s too late (Little recently died in prison at the age of 80, after having avoided justice for his crimes for decades). Lauren uncovers Little’s darkest secrets and aids law enforcement in solving a multitude of cold case murders while struggling to reconcile her own history of addiction and abuse with her present-day mission to return the identities of previously nameless bodies and forgotten women.
“Mare of Easttown” (10 p.m., HBO): Oscar-winner Kate Winslet shines in this seven-part limited series She plays a small-town Pennsylvania detective — and former high school basketball hero — who investigates a sordid local murder as life crumbles around her. The impressive cast also includes Julianne Nicholson, Jean Smart, Guy Pearce and Evan Peters.
