This Week on MMO Digital: Mets Swept the Phillies
The only thing that has gotten in the way of the New York Mets this week has been the weather, as a rainout on Thursday and a snow out yesterday have kept this red-hot team off the diamond.
Prior to those postponements, the Mets swept the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game set, with the previously scheduled fourth game to be made up later this season. We had all of our podcasts in midseason form covering this week’s action, so here is a summation of everything we have had featured this week, as part of MMO Digital.
Empire State of Mind
This week in episode three, host Zachary Grady talked about what’s wrong with the Mets offense this season, and why the boys in blue and orange can’t score any runs when Jacob deGrom is on the bump.
Grady was also joined by Mets beat writer Justin Toscano to break down the opening week of the 2021 season. Finally we met Dan Aronson in the debut of “Five Fan Minutes” on the Empire State of Mind Podcast.
Mets Maniacs
In the first episode of Mets Manicas this week, hosts Ty Wilkes and Mike Breznak dove into Jacob deGrom’s latest start, the Mets floundering offense, and potential solutions the Mets could try out to help jumpstart their lineup. The Maniacs also covered Michael Conforto’s early season woes and James McCann’s nice start defensively
Finally, in the latest edition of the show, Maniacs Ty Wilkes and Mike Breznak (Uncle Mike) examined the Mets current three-game winning streak, and how this team is starting to gel a little more.
They also talked about the Mets impressive starting pitching against the Phillies by Taijuan Walker, David Peterson and Marcus Stroman, as well as how the offense is starting to come alive.
Locked On Mets
The only daily podcast on the New York Mets is hosted by yours truly, Ryan Finkelstein, as I aim to keep you locked in on all things Mets every day.
On Monday, I talked about last Saturday’s loss to the Marlins and the impressive start from Marlins rookie Trevor Rogers. I also previewed the series against the Philadelphia Phillies and what it would take for the Mets to get back on track.
Following Monday’s rainout, I spent Tuesday talking about the importance of sweeping the doubleheader against the Phillies, which New York was ultimately able to accomplish behind great starting pitching from Taijuan Walker and Marcus Stroman.
I was also joined by Rob Piersall, as we discussed his Real Mets Legends account on Twitter and it’s accompanied podcast. Rob also shared his thoughts on the early struggles of the Mets this season.
On Wednesday, I broke down the Mets doubleheader sweep of the Phillies, which included a walk-off hit by Jonathan Villar. I issued an “apology” to Villar after having previously criticizing him on the show last week, while also celebrating the fact that the Mets were suddenly in first place.
On Thursday, after a third-consecutive victory, I broke down the win and talked about whether the Mets have finally turned a corner.
Finally on Friday’s show, I previewed this weekend’s series against the Colorado Rockies, checked in on some former Mets around the league and did a Statcast breakdown of Jeurys Familia‘s performance this year and why he is throwing the ball better than it may seem.
