Franklyn Kilome Clears Waivers, Outrighted to Alternate Site
Mets right-handed pitching prospect Franklyn Kilome has a cleared waivers and was outright to the alternate site, per Jacob Resnick of SNY.
Kilome was designated for assignment on April 10 to make room for Jose Peraza. The fact that a once high-profile prospect like Kilome wasn’t picked up by any team is indicative how far he’s fallen, which unfortunately is mostly due to injury concerns. He hasn’t pitched a minor league games since 2018, has never pitched at the Triple-A level and posted an 11.12 ERA in four games with the Mets in 2020.
So Kilome remains in the Mets minor league system, and his focus will now be on getting healthy and working his way back up the pecking order. He’s still a talented, relatively young arm with potential.
Resnick did note, however, that if he isn’t added back to the 40-man roster by the end of the season, he will become a minor league free agent. So this will be an important season for Kilome as he looks to prove that he’s still the same arm that he was when the Mets acquired him for Asdrubal Cabrera in 2018.
