24 Heures Motos Canceled
After consultation with the medical teams and local Government agencies, the 44th edition of the 24 Heures Motos, initially scheduled for April 17 and 18, has been canceled, the decision confirmed by agreement between The Automobile Club de l’Ouest and the Prefecture of Sarthe, together with the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the Fédération Française de Motocyclisme (FFM) and Eurosport Events, promoter of the FIM EWC World Championship.
The ACO is currently working on a possible postponement date for the event to a later date with the results of their work promised within 10 days.
Health concerns in France at present, together with a wish not to incur further pressure on already stretched local and regional medical resources have been key factors in the decision.
Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest: “Canceling the 24 Heures Motos is a particularly difficult decision. Unfortunately, the current health situation does not allow us to guarantee our standards in terms of organization. I have a thought particular for all medical staff, particularly in demand for over a year now. We are working tirelessly to find a fallback date for this 44th edition. ”
Sébastien Poirier, President of the French Motorcycling Federation: “Canceling an event is never easy, and I want to give my full support to the ACO. We will continue to support it as best we can. all the competitors and hope to find them on the starting grid of the Bugatti Circuit very soon. Now is the time for solidarity with the nursing staff and it is together that we will overcome this crisis. ”
François Ribeiro, Head of Eurosport Events: “The safety of the riders is not a negotiable parameter and the current hospital tension and over the coming weeks does not allow the holding of the 24 Heures Motos. As of today, we are working with the ACO to find a postponement date to ensure the organization of the FIM EWC World Championship at Le Mans. All our forces are on this objective. ”
The 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans was postponed to 21/22 August, a decision taken some weeks ago.
