#LAKings Lakers, Clippers, Kings, Ducks set to welcome fans back to the great indoors (Daily N

California’s move Friday to allow fans at indoor sporting events starting April 15 means a still-to-be-determined number of spectators will be granted access to Staples Center and Honda Center to cheer the Lakers, Clippers, Kings and Ducks in person for the first time since the pandemic shutdown more than one year ago.
It’ll be just in time for some fans to watch the Lakers play host to the rival Boston Celtics on April 15. The Ducks will host the Vegas Golden Knights the next night. The Clippers will face off against the Minnesota Timberwolves on April 18. The Kings and Ducks will renew hostilities April 20 at Staples Center.
“We are incredibly excited that the State of California announced guidelines that will allow Lakers fans to return to Staples Center,” the Lakers said in a statement. “Now that we have the guidance, we will work with L.A. County Public Health and Staples Center to finalize our plans to have fans safely attend our games.
“We look forward to welcoming Lakers fans back to Staples Center to continue the journey with us to defend our NBA title.”
The Lakers and Celtics are tied for the most NBA championships with 17. The Lakers won their record-tying title last Oct. 11, defeating the Miami Heat with no fans in attendance inside the coronavirus bubble the NBA created last summer and fall in Orlando, Florida.
Presently, Los Angeles and Orange counties are each in the Orange Tier, which means indoor sporting events could host up to 10 percent of capacity or 2,000 fans or up to 35 percent of capacity if all spectators test negative or have proof of vaccination for COVID-19. If the counties drop into the less-restrictive Yellow Tier, capacity would still be capped at 10 percent or 2,000 fans, but it could increase to 50 percent if all spectators have a negative test or proof of vaccination.
Fans have been banned from Staples Center and Honda Center since the NHL shut down play because of the pandemic March 12, 2020. The Kings and Ducks last played home games in front of fans one night earlier. The NBA halted play March 11, 2020, after Utah’s Rudy Gobert tested positive.
Ticketing for upcoming events at Staples Center and Honda Center will be announced at a later date. The Kings and Ducks each said season ticket holders would receive priority for buying tickets for the final games of the season at Staples Center and Honda Center. Physical distancing, advanced ticketing, designated eating and drinking areas and attendance limited to in-state fans will be required, according to the state’s announcement Friday.
“The Ducks and Anaheim Arena Management will announce venue capacity and protocols for the final five home games in the coming days,” the Ducks said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see our great fans once again and look forward to filling Honda Center to capacity when deemed safe by state and local public health agencies.”
The Clippers and Kings also said they would announce capacity and safety guidelines in the coming days, in cooperation with county public officials.
“We are thrilled that the state of California has now released the guidance that will allow us to have fans return to Kings games at Staples Center starting on April 20 versus Anaheim,” the Kings said in a statement. “Now that we have this information, we will be able to work with our local health officials at L.A. County to provide information to our fans in the coming week as to how they will be able to attend our games. This is exciting for our players and our fans.”
