Bloody clothing found by police may link to murder investigation
Police investigating the murder of woman have found a suitcase with bloody clothing in a plot near the residence of one of the suspects, reports said on Friday.
Investigators received the information on Thursday and the bloody clothes were sent to the lab to determine whether there was a link.
The suitcase was found near the house of one of three suspects, 32, 31, 36, held in connection with the murder. Police consider the 32-year-old man as their main suspect, as he is believed to have been the woman’s partner.
The woman’s identity has not yet been confirmed as pathologists have not yet completed the post-mortem on the decomposed body, which was found on March 24.
Police believe the body belongs to a Ukrainian woman who was working in Cyprus. No one had reported her missing despite the crime taking place several months ago, according to police.
The badly decomposed body was found in a field in the buffer zone near Athienou.
It had been laid in a shallow grave and was brought to the surface after the owner of the plot ploughed the field the previous day but didn’t realise there was a human body because of the darkness.
Investigators determined the woman had been killed elsewhere a long time ago and brought to the field recently and buried, wrapped in plastic bin bags.
Crime scene officers investigated a scene in Aglandjia, Nicosia, where the perpetrator or perpetrators are believed to have kept the body hidden in a septic tank of an empty building before being moved to Athienou.
