Boss admits he has been ‘really impressed’ with on-loan Spurs defender
Bournemouth boss Jonathan Woodgate has admitted that he has been impressed with Cameron Carter-Vickers and claimed that the on-loan Spurs defender has all the attributes required to be a top centre-half.
The USA international has not made a first-team appearance for the North Londoners since 2017 and has had loan spells at Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City, Stoke City and Luton Town, with some being more successful than others.
The 23-year-old had a difficult start to his time at Bournemouth with injuries having prevented him from hitting the ground running at the start of the season.
However, the centre-back has now established himself as first-choice under Woodgate and seems to be getting better with each game.
Reports indicate that Tottenham are prepared to let Carter-Vickers leave on a free transfer when his contract runs out at the end of the season.
Woodgate praised the Spurs academy graduate, admitting that he has been a key reason behind the Cherries’ turnaround in form.
The former Tottenham man told Bournemouth Echo: “I’ve been really impressed (with Carter-Vickers). Okay, he’s not the tallest but he’s a very, very good defender.
“His leap is good, he’s quick, he’s decent enough on the ball for me.
“What he does need to improve on is in the opposition box, scoring more goals, but I like him as a player, I like his personality.
“He wants to defend first and I think that’s important in this league. I’ve really enjoyed working with him.
“He hasn’t missed a minute and we’ve kept four clean sheets with him in the team.”

Carter-Vickers has the attributes to forge a very good career in the Championship but I do not think the 23-year-old is quite good enough for the top flight. I expect several Championship clubs to queue up for his signature in the summer if he maintains his current vein of form until the end of the season.
