Hunt for woman who spat at bus passenger in row over mask
A hunt is underway for a woman who spat at a commuter for asking her to put on a face mask.
CCTV cameras pictured a woman stepping onto a bus running through Northampton without any face covering.
When a man asked her to wear one, she shouted at him, walked towards him, then spat in his direction from about a foot away.
The bus driver then told her to get out and she left around the town’s Weston Favell area.
Now, almost two months after the row on January 9, police are appealing for information about her.
The woman had started her journey on the No16 Stagecoach bus, which runs between Ecton Brook and Northampton town centre, just after 3.15pm.
Officers are hoping the woman pictured will come forward but welcome calls from anyone who recognises her or knows anything about the argument.
Those who do not wear masks on public transport can be fined £200, with the charge doubling on every repeat offence up until £6,400.
In the past year several people have been jailed for spitting at others during the pandemic.
