Mario Draghi accepts his new role as the ‘Italian Prime Minister’
Mario Draghi is appointed the new Prime Minister of Ital and announced a cabinet from all over the country’s political spectrum.
A well-known economist accepted his role on Friday and later announced a list of ministers to create buy-in among political parties, however out of 23 names only eight members of his cabinet are women.
His government is expected to be sworn in on Saturday, Draghi previously served as the president of the European Central Bank.
Draghi who himself does not belong to any part was nicknamed “Super Mario” for saving the euro currency during sovereign debt problems, and will likely to serve besides Franco, his finance minister, CNN reported.
They both will prepare reform plans for Italy that will allow it to obtain 209 billion euros from the European recovery funds.
He became the successor of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, who lost his leadership in the Senate over the government’s management of the coronavirus pandemic and economic recession.
New ministers will be formally sworn in on Saturday before the government starts its full tasks, and soon they will face parliament for votes of confidence by next week.
Most of the political parties except right-wing party “Brothers of Italy” will support the upcoming government, a CNN report indicated.
