Boris to give Commons statement as deaths pass 100,000 in UK
Boris Johnson will give a statement to Parliament on the coronavirus pandemic today as devastating figures show the UK death toll has passed 100,000.
The statement will take place at around 1.15pm, replacing one scheduled by Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
The Prime Minister claimed his Government did ‘everything it could’ to minimise loss of life as he offered his condolences to families on Tuesday.
However, ministers face fierce criticism of their handling of the pandemic as coronavirus claims more lives in the UK than anywhere else in Europe.
Only five countries in the world have passed the grim milestone of 100,000.
This is a breaking story – more follows.
