As Bigfoot hunting season could become a reality – here are the most famous sasquatch sightings
BIGFOOT hunters can soon get a license to hunt the ape-like folklore legend if an Oklahoma official can pass legislation officially declaring the start of “Bigfoot Season.”
Oklahoma State Representative Justin Humphrey wants tourists and big-game hunters alike to come to the state to hunt the mythical creature – and bring much-needed tourism dollars to the cash-strapped state.
Humphrey introduced a bill announcing the official start of a “Bigfoot Hunting Season” in the state. His southeast Oklahomadistrict includes the heavily forested Ouachita Mountains, which plays host to an annual Bigfoot festival.
He says the marketing ploy could help the state make bank on issuing state hunting licenses.
“Tourism is one of the biggest attractions we have in my House district,” Humphrey said in a statement.
“Establishing an actual hunting season and issuing licenses for people who want to hunt Bigfoot will just draw more people to our already beautiful part of the state,” he continued. “It will be a great way for people to enjoy our area and to have some fun.”
He hopes to bring tourism dollars to his district through the bill[/caption]Humphrey’s plan for Bigfoot Hunting Season, set to start officially on November 1 of this year if passed, will only allow trapping of the forbidden creature, not killing.
Humphrey is working with the state wildlife and tourism departments to craft the final language for the bill, as well as hoping to secure at least $25,000 as a sort of bounty for the first person to capture the creature.
“A lot of people don’t believe in Bigfoot, but a lot of people do,” Humphrey said. “Just like some people like to go deer hunting, while some don’t.”
“Having a license and a tag would give people a way to prove they participated in the hunt,” Humphrey said. “Again, the overall goal is to get people to our area to enjoy the natural beauty and to have a great time, and if they find Bigfoot while they’re at it, well hey, that’s just an even bigger prize.”
Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation spokesperson Micah Holmes recently said the agency uses science-driven research and doesn’t recognize Bigfoot.
There have been over 10,000 sightings of Bigfoot in over 50 years[/caption] Many have caught a dark figure walking through a wooded area[/caption]There have been countless sightings of the fabled beast, with over 10,000 people laying claim to have seen Sasquatch in over 50 years.
Over a third of such Bigfoot aficionados have seen the creature in Oregon, but Humphrey hopes the proposed law would bring many to his state.
Out of the 10,000 sightings, including actor Rob Lowe, there are a few famous examples that stand apart.
In September 2006, something Sasquatch-like in Michigan was caught on a live stream set up to film a nest of baby eagles.
A large, black, human-esque figure can be seen stomping through the forest – before disappearing back into the undergrowth.
There was a video of a terrified Ukrainian man cowering behind a tree as a figure he believes to be a Yeti walk past him in 2011.
