Trump’s 1776 Commission slams ‘one-sided partisan opinions’ as it touts ‘patriotic education’
PRESIDENT Trump’s 1776 Commission has slammed “one-sided partisan opinions” on American history calling out “destructive scholarship” and touting “patriotic education”.
The report, released on MLK Day, called out the misrepresentation of the history of slavery and racial discrimination in the US.

Billed as a “definitive chronicle of the American founding”, the report denounces what the commission has called “the decline of American education” by “progressive educators who sought to reshape students in the image they thought best”.
“States and school districts should reject any curriculum that promotes one-sided partisan opinions, activist propaganda, or factional ideologies that demean America’s heritage, dishonor our heroes, or deny our principles,” the 45-page report says.
The document went on to slam colleges who “peddle resentment and contempt for American principles and history alike” because it “shames Americans by highlighting only the sins of their ancestors”.
Trump created the commission last year to counter the blame put on the Founding Fathers during the anti-Police protests last summer.
During the demonstrations, sparked by the murder of George Floyd, Americans demanded the removal of statues of slaveholders and colonial figures from public spaces.
The commission was chaired by a group of conservative thinkers including the president of Hillsdale College, Larry Arnn and, retired politics professor, Carol Swain.
The document says: “Deliberately destructive scholarship shatters the civic bonds that unite all Americans.
“It silences the discourse essential to a free society by breeding division, distrust, and hatred among citizens.
“And it is the intellectual force behind so much of the violence in our cities, suppression of free speech in our universities, and defamation of our treasured national statues and symbols.”
On the political divisions between the Democrats and Republicans, the report compares them to the “disagreements between the colonists and King George, and those between the Confederate and Union forces in the Civil War.”
The report was released just two days before President Trump leaves office and appears to be a counter to the New York Times’ 1619 Project which was published in 2019.
The report, which was blasted by Trump and fellow Republicans, aimed to “reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at its very center of the United States’ national narrative”.
The 1776 report went so far as to call out the NYT’s Pulitzer Prize winning project calling out the journalists who wrote it.
“By turning to bitterness and judgment, distorted histories of those like Howard Zinn or the journalists behind the ‘1619 Project’ have prevented their students from learning to think inductively with a rich repository of
cultural, historical, and literary referents,” the report said.
Meanwhile, Black Lives Matter protesters clashed with cops in violent scenes at a Martin Luther King Jr Day demo leading to 30 arrests.
The confrontation took place outside City Hall Park in New York City on Monday night at roughly 8.30pm.

The protesters were marching from Barclays Center, over the Brooklyn Bridge and towards the park, the New York Post reported.
While on their way they were met by police, leading to a violent clash.
At least ten cops were injured, the outlet reported, including a captain who was hit on his helmet with a bottle.
