Petty Donald Trump ‘will jet to Florida on Air Force One instead of welcoming Joe Biden’
Donald Trump is planning one last flight on Air Force One and will snub Joe Biden’s inauguration for a trip to his Florida home, it is claimed.
The outgoing President of the United States plans to board the US government Boeing 747 on Wednesday morning, for the two-hour flight from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland to his Mar-a-Lago country club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Trump confirmed plans to avoid Biden’s inauguration in the wake of last week’s US Capitol riots, with Bloomberg sharing details of what it claims is the plan for the president’s final morning in office.
He will be the first president in decades to snub his successor’s inauguration, in what has traditionally been seen as an important symbol of the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to the next.
President Trump is almost certain to be joined by wife Melania and son Barron, 14, although his eldest daughter Ivanka is rumored to be keen to attend the Biden swearing-in.
The New York City-born president changed his tax residency from the Empire State to Florida in 2019, and is said to be keen to live at Mar-a-Lago – although many neighbors are said to be upset at the continued upheaval this will bring.
President-elect Biden and his wife Jill have accepted an invitation to stay at Blair House, a historic State Department property in DC, on the eve of the inauguration.
Outgoing Vice President Mike Pence has already indicated that he will attend the inauguration, to watch Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris get sworn in.
Photographs taken earlier this week showed Trump staffers leaving the White House carrying trinkets including a bust of Abraham Lincoln, a stuffed bird, and large boxes of newspaper cuttings.
President Trump has continued to assert that he unfairly lost last November’s election to Joe Biden, but has yet to provide substantive proof to back-up his claims.
He has been impeached for a second time for goading supporters ahead of last Wednesday’s riots, and could be banned from running for office a second time if he is convicted.
