Woman’s car seized after breaking Covid rules on 70-mile trip to the beach
A North Staffordshire tourist has been caught breaking coronavirus rules in North Wales - after driving almost 80 miles to 'go to the beach'. The woman - who lives in Newcastle - was pulled over in Prestatyn at the weekend due to the 'manner of her driving'. And as England and Wales are both in national lockdowns she will be reported for breaching coronavirus regulations. Her vehicle was also seized and she was reported for driving without a full licence and driving without insurance.

A woman’s car was seized by police after she breached lockdown by driving almost 70 miles across the border into Wales to ‘go to the beach’.

She was initially pulled over in Prestatyn after her ‘manner of driving’ caught the eye of officers out on patrol.

After speaking to her they discovered she had travelled around 67 miles from Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire without a full licence or any insurance.

They seized her vehicle and reported the woman for breaching Covid-19 regulations along with the alleged driving offences.

North Wales Police said: ‘This vehicle came to our attention due to the manner of driving.

‘Vehicle had travelled from Newcastle-under-Lyme to Prestatyn because the driver wanted to go to the beach.

‘Also transpired she had no insurance and only a provisional licence. Vehicle seized and reported for three offences.’

Wales entered its highest level of restrictions, effectively amounting to a lockdown, on December 20, with the public expected to stay at home and avoid travel unless there is a reasonable excuse.

Police across the country have also been carrying out vehicle checks reminding drivers of the rules around essential travel and asking about their journeys.
