Princess Diana shyly smiles before stunning with piano recital in unseen footage during Royal Tour with Charles

AN IMPRESSIVE video has emerged of a shy-looking Princess Diana showing off her incredible piano skills during a royal tour of Australia.

The previously-unseen clip from 1988 shows the People’s Princess playing a complicated Rachmaninov piano concerto to a room full of shocked onlookers.

The video was recorded when Charles and Diana visited a school Down Under, in which the late Princess effortlessly performed a segment from Rachmaninoff’s fiendish Piano Concerto No 2.

While visiting the school, the Prince of Wales met an old friend who knew that he once learned the cello, and who asked him to play a few notes.

Moments after Charles had finished, his friend then asked the Princess to share her piano skills, although in typical Diana style, she appeared a little shy at first.

Finally, after some persuasion, the royal – who was dressed in a fashionable black and white ensemble – walked over to the piano and sat down.

She plays the notoriously complicated piece by Russian composer and pianist, Sergei Rachmaninov, to a room full of people who watch on in amazement.

After her performance, the modest Diana hurriedly scurries off, at which point the broadcaster says: “She almost ran for cover, clearly embarrassed at her musical debut”.

The Princess of Wales was an accomplished pianist, developing her musical talent during her school years.

Meanwhile, her maternal grandmother, Ruth Boche, Baroness Fermoy, was a talented pianist who studied with Alfred Cortot at the Paris Conservatoire in the 1920s.

Diana’s fascinating performance came just seven years after she married The Prince of Wales at the age of 20.

However, their marriage suffered due to their incompatibility and extramarital affairs and the couple famously separated in 1992 before divorcing in 1996.

The marriage thrust her into the global spotlight and she was regularly photographed at events around the world but there were only a few occasions when she indulged in her musical talents publicly.

Diana passed away in hospital in the early hours of 31 August 1997, after being injured in a car crash in a road tunnel in Paris.
