When state lockdowns closed schools and offices, countless working mothers had to juggle overseeing remote learning for their kids in addition to their full-time jobs—or were forced out of the workforce altogether. Childcare workers lost their jobs or risked exposure so they could continue going to work and taking care of the children of essential workers.
