Arteta allows furious meeting between Arsenal players in desperate rescue mission
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly allowed his players to hold an “intense” training ground exchange on Tuesday in a bid to end his team’s poor form.
The Gunners have not won in the Premier League since the start of November when they beat Manchester United.
Indeed, a distinct lack of goals is the main cause of their malaise, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the spotlight.
But key incidents have also played their part behind the scenes. Mesut Ozil’s exclusion from the squad is a major one, as is the leak of a training-ground fracas between Dani Ceballos and David Luiz.
All in all though, Arsenal sit 14th in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday’s north London derby. As such, ahead of the meeting with table-topping Tottenham, Arteta reportedly decided to take action.
ESPN claims that the Spanish boss called his squad over on Tuesday to discuss the reasons for their slump. The source reports that there was a ‘frank exchange of views’.
Arteta also told the players that he will continue to work on finding the source of the recent leak.
But after that, the manager reportedly asked his players to hold a meeting between themselves over their issues.
Those discussions were reportedly “stormy” and “intense”, with many players “finger-pointing” at their colleagues.
However, the talks ended in a positive outcome, with the players agreeing the end goal of backing Arteta.
Outspoken Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has said that he believes that there is something “behind the scenes” affecting Arsenal.
He pointed to Aubameyang’s recent drop-off; the Gabon international scored 29 goals last season but has struggled for the same consistency this time around.
Bellerin slams ‘unjust’ Arteta criticism
Amid Arsenal’s current poor run, Arteta has also faced his fair share of criticism.
Indeed, he recently faced questions about whether he has any doubts about his position.
But according to defender Hector Bellerin, the manager needs more time and resources to turn Arsenal’s fortunes around.
