Britain’s least used railway station in Norfolk only had 42 passengers in the past year
BRITAIN’S least used railway station has seen only 42 passengers in the past year, figures show.
The number using rural Berney Arms in Norfolk between April 2019 and March 2020 was down 90 per cent on the previous year due to signal works.
The station is a single platform where travellers have to put an arm out to stop the train to board or tell the driver if they want to get off there.
It is three miles from the nearest road.
Other lesser-used stations, according to the Office of Rail and Road, were Elton and Orston, Notts, which had 68 passengers, and Thornton in Cheshire with 82.
London Waterloo was the UK’s busiest station for the 16th year in a row, despite a drop of 7.3million users to 86.9million.

ORR senior statistical analyst said: “The dramatic drop in passenger numbers towards the end of March due to Covid-19 explains much of the drop in usage compared to last year.
“Despite this, Waterloo remains top but we saw a change in the least used station with Berney Arms taking the spot from Denton and Stanlow & Thornton.
“With numbers staying at historically low levels during 2020, there is no doubt that next year’s figures will look a lot different.”
