Coronavirus: Woman circulating after testing positive charged
A woman from the Famagusta area has been charged after she was found in a public place after testing positive for coronavirus so should have been self isolating.
The woman was seen at lunchtime on Friday by the police and charged while a criminal case against her is being investigated.
Meanwhile, in the 24 hours to Saturday morning police around the island carried out 2.557 checks and charged a total of 59 people and four businesses.
A police spokesman told the Cyprus News Agency that in Nicosia there were 372 checks with ten people charged, in Limassol 445 checks with 11 charges and in Larnaca 547 checks which saw 14 individuals charged.
In Famagusta 393 checks saw two people charged while in Paphos two businesses and 21 people were charged as the result of 721 checks.
In Morphou one person was charged from 41 checks.
Individuals were charged for moving around after curfew and for not wearing masks as according to the protocols in place.
One charge was made in Paphos when police found a larger than allowed group playing cards.
Police found 17 people playing dice in a house which had been turned into a card playing club.
The people were found after police received a tip off and secured a warrant to search the place. Playing cards and betting tokens.
The 17 were charged with playing dice and breaking the measure that disallows large gatherings.
