Journalist offers update on whether Spurs vs Ludogorets will be played or postponed
Football.London claimed yesterday that, according to UEFA’s rules, Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League clash against Ludogorets tomorrow could be pushed back to a later date if the Bulgarian side failed to fulfil the requirements for the fixtures.
Bulgarian publication Sportal (as translated by One Football) reported at the start of the month that 12 players from the Ludogorets camp tested positive just days after Spurs beat them 3-1 in Bulgaria.
While that came as quite a scare for Jose Mourinho’s side at the time, thankfully none of the Tottenham stars seemed to be affected.
Bulgarian publication, Tema Sport now report (as relayed by Football.London), Ludogorets are facing a battle to name a squad to travel to north London in order to fulfil the group stage fixture on Thursday.
This is after two of their defenders, Olivier Verdon and Georgi Terziev, tested positive for COVID-19 on top of the multiple players Stanislav Genchev’s men are already without due to injuries.
It is said that, according to UEFA’s rules, the reigning Bulgarian champions can ask to have the match rescheduled for a later date if they are not able to name a squad for the match.
However, The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has since taken to social media to reveal that the Ludogorets players have boarded a flight to London, which indicates that the clash is set to go ahead.
#thfc Ludogorets boarded a flight to London this morning, so match very much going ahead, despite reports last night. They're likely to have a depleted squad though.
