Person fatally struck by train at Harold Washington Library CTA stop; Brown, Orange, Pink Line trains rerouted
Pink Line service has been suspended between Polk and the Loop as a result of the collision, and Brown and Orange line trains will merge routes.
A person was killed after being struck by a train Tuesday at the Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren CTA stop.
The person was struck by a train before 8 p.m. at the station, 26 W. Van Buren St., according to Chicago fire officials. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Pink Line service has been suspended between Polk and the Loop as a result of the collision, according to the CTA. Trains are still running between 54th/Cermak and Polk, where they will be diverted to Racine so that commuters can continue on the Blue Line.
Brown and Orange line trains will also merge routes to allow emergency crews to respond, the CTA said. Brown Line trains will run on the Orange Line tracks from Roosevelt to Midway, and Orange Line trains will run on the Brown Line tracks from the Merchandise Mart to Kimball.
Chicago police could not immediately provide details about the incident.
