The Austin American-Statesman is reporting that anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg “will be spending about a million dollars a day the last week of the campaign on statewide advertising in Texas in both Spanish and English to help Democratic nominee Joe Biden defeat president Donald Trump.”
The Dallas Morning News calls Bloomberg a “media mogul” in its coverage of the situation, which once again shows Bloomberg’s almost bottomless pocket spending, splitting a reported $15 million between Texas and Ohio via his Independence USA political action committee. Television advertising was set to start Wednesday in both states, the Dallas newspaper reported.
The Austin newspaper said a chief Bloomberg advisor told the New York Times that Bloomberg wants to flip both Texas and Ohio. He has already committed to spending $100 million to flip Florida for Biden, making the race ever tighter.
During a campaign appearance Tuesday, Biden referred to himself as Kamala Harris’ running mate.
According to Mediaite, Texas appears to be drifting into the Biden column, according to NBC News.
The latest Rasmussen poll shows Trump edging Biden with 48 percent support among likely voters, while challenger Joe Biden has 47 percent support. It is essentially a dead heat with one week remaining before the Nov. 3 election, and the lead seems to be bouncing back and forth between the president and Biden.
Rasmussen recalled that on the final Wednesday prior to the 2016 election, Trump and Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton were tied at 44 percent apiece.
In a related note, Rasmussen’s daily presidential tracking poll finds 52 percent of likely voters approve of President Trump’s job performance, while 47 percent disapprove.
One thing that may be hurting Biden is the emerging story about his alleged involvement to some degree in his son’s overseas business activity. According to Rasmussen, “54% of Likely U.S. Voters believe it’s likely that Biden was consulted about and perhaps profited from Hunter’s overseas business deals including at least one involving a company in mainland China. Forty-four percent (44%) consider it Very Likely.”
Bloomberg’s pro-Biden advertising will launch Wednesday in Texas and run through Election Day, the Austin newspaper said.
The American-Statesman reported, “Recent polls have shown Biden and Trump running neck-and-neck in Texas, but the New York Times/Siena College poll released Monday found Trump ahead by 4 points, 47% to 43% for Biden.”
But nobody is getting overconfident. Bloomberg and other big money sources are pouring fortunes into the effort to prevent the president from serving a second term. They have the added incentive of Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. The president has now named three solid conservative justices to the high court and another four-year term could allow him to appoint another justice, and more federal judges to the lower courts.
According to Rasmussen, Trump was ahead in polling for the first time since mid-September.
Activists on both sides have been urging people to vote, and it appears voter turnout in early balloting is much higher than normal, underscoring the importance people are placing on this election.
