Playoff chances for all 32 NFL teams after Week 7
Week 7 is in the books, and it’s beginning to look like Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots could miss the playoffs for the first time since 2010. The Patriots’ loss to the 49ers dropped their playoff chances by 20.4 percent, and gave the Buffalo Bills even more security at the top of the AFC East.
The Patriots weren’t the only team to do major damage their playoff chances in Week 7, though. To determine which teams have the best chance of making the playoffs in 2020, we crunched the numbers from the most recent playoff models from three major outlets – ESPN’s FPI, Five Thirty Eight and Football Outsiders. Each team is ranked in order of their average projected chance to qualify for the playoffs.
Big winners: Bills, Browns, Cardinals
Despite not scoring a touchdown against the Jets’ defense, the Bills won on Sunday to move to 5-2. Combined the with Patriots’ loss, the results of the weekend boosted the Bills’ already solid playoff chances by 15.2 percent.
Big losers: Patriots, Bears, Cowboys
The Patriots’ blowout loss and the general state of Cam Newton’s game are concerning. On Monday night, the Bears’ playoff hopes took a crushing 20.2 percent hit. The Cowboys’ offensive issues have yet to be resolved, and Dallas has now dropped behind Washington in the NFC East pecking order.
