Barack Obama calls Donald Trump abnormal and says he’s worse than ‘Florida man’
Former President of the United States Barack Obama has launched a stinging attack on his successor Donald Trump, calling him ‘not normal.’
Speaking at a Joe Biden campaign event in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday, Obama also claimed Trump’s behavior as president was worse than that of Florida man – the nickname given to oddballs and unhinged criminals from the Sunshine State who regularly hit the headlines.
Obama said: ‘Even Fox News says sometimes that what (Trump) says isn’t really true. Even me. It’s not normal behavior. We wouldn’t tolerate it from a co-worker, we wouldn’t tolerate it from a football coach, we wouldn’t tolerate it from a high school principal.
I mean we might have to put up with it if it was a family member but we talk about ’em afterwards. Even Florida man wouldn’t be doing some of this stuff. Why would we accept it from the President of the United States?’
Obama, who served as president between 2009 and Trump’s inauguration in 2017, conceded that many in the US had grown ‘numb’ to the current president’s frequently outrageous behavior.
And Obama also branded Trump careless for getting Covid-19, and turning the White House into a ‘hot zone’ for the disease.
He said: ‘I lived in the White House … You know, it’s a controlled environment.
‘You can take some preventive measures in the White House to avoid getting sick. Except this guy can’t seem to do it.
‘He’s turned the White House into a hot zone.’
Obama’s remarks were met with rapturous applause from the crowd, amid a frenzy of last-minute campaigning ahead of the November 3 presidential election.
Obama and Biden – his former vice president – are due to take to the stage together this weekend amid polls showing Biden on course to become the 46th President-elect of the United States next week.
Meanwhile President Trump has insisted he will clinch another shock victory, like he did over Hillary Clinton in 2016, and has himself hit the campaign trail hard.
Trump is due to attend rallies in Michigan, Wisconsin and Nebraska on Tuesday evening.
