How to get a free meal at McDonald’s during half-term
Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford’s campaign to feed vulnerable children over half-term has amounted to hundreds of local shops, restaurants and councils singing up to offer meals, food vouchers, hampers and direct payments to parents.
Fast food giant McDonald’s announced it will provide one million free meals for vulnerable children.
The restaurant chain tweeted: ‘We are proud to announce a partnership with @FareShareUK to provide 1 million meals for families in need.
‘Our funding will enable the urgent redistribution of meals across the next couple of weeks to those in greatest need.’
But how can you get free food from McDonald’s?
How to get a free meal at McDonald’s during half-term
McDonald’s will donate the equivalent of one million meals to FareShare, a company who redistributes this surplus food to charities and community groups.
As long as you qualify for free school meals, you will be able to collect a meal from a charity such as a homeless hostel, a community centre, or a school breakfast club that receives donations from FareShare.
You will not be able to walk into your local McDonald’s to collect your free meal.
The organisation works with over 10,962 charities. You can search for a local centre on the FareShare website.
You can also donate your Tesco Clubcard points to FareShare, on the Tesco website.
What other places are offering free school meals over the half-term?
Joining McDonald’s are a plethora of restaurants, stores, and local councils.
Morrisons staff will prepare 30 lunchboxes in each of their 498 stores this half-term.
Meanwhile, the Co-op has pledged to provide free school meal vouchers for more than 5,000 vulnerable children at schools in the Co-op Academies Trust.
Vietnamese street food chain Pho has pledged to give away 6,000 free meals for half term.
And the Big Smoke Brewery is donating 1,000 free meals to families that need them.
Some of the local councils that are offering free meals over to vulnerable families over the half term include Camden, Essex, Kensington and Chelsea, Liverpool City, Manchester City, and York.
Additionally, hundreds of small local businesses have pledged to take part.
Marcus Rashford shared a map that helps you to locate free meals.
He also shares every restaurant that tweets their pledge using the #ENDCHILDFOODPOVERTY hashtag on his Twitter page.
