[Men's Basketball] Men's Basketball Improves to 2-0
Doane Men's Basketball picked up their second win of the season in as many games with a 75-66 win over York College on Monday evening in Crete. The Tigers trailed by five points at halftime, 41-35, only to go on a 22-3 run in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.
The game opened with the Tigers scoring the first seven points of the game and leading by as many as nine points in the first half. With 6:43 to play in the half, Doane led 29-24. York closed the half on a 17-6 run as the Panthers shot 54-percent in the first 20 minutes.
It was a contrast of halves for York in their shooting percentage. After a hot first half, the Panthers were held to 23-percent shooting in the final 20 minutes including 1-of-16 from behind the arc. Doane shot slightly better in the second half compared to the first, going from 33-percent to 43-percent between the two stanzas.
Trey Winkler (JR/Gering, Neb.) led the Tigers with 18 points, going 8-for-8 at the free throw line. Jaxon Harre (SR/Omaha, Neb.) and Ben Moxness (JR/Scribner, Neb.) added 11 points apiece. Moxness had a team-high eight rebounds followed by Anthony Laravie (SR/Omaha, Neb.) with seven. Zach Witters (SR/Lenexa, Kan.) dished out four assists.
York was led by Demauria Haywood as he finished the game with a double-double, 19 points and 11 rebounds. Tyreece Berry added 11 points and Webster Simeus finished with 10 points.
Doane will compete in the Bellevue Classic on October 30-31. Their game on October 30 will be at 1 PM against the host squad, Bellevue.
