Alexander Klyukin took part in an online briefing on attempts of outside interference in the preparation and conduct of a single voting day

On 17 September 2020, Alexander Klyukin, a member of the CEC of Russia, together with Andrey Klimov, Chairman of the Temporary Commission of the Council of the Federation for the protection of state sovereignty and prevention of interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation, took part in an online briefing by RIA Novosti.

The briefing was devoted to recorded attempts of outside interference in the preparation and conduct of a single voting day in Russia.

Alexander Klyukin called the past single voting day truly large-scale – more than 9 thousand election campaigns were held in 83 regions of the country. More than 8,000 journalists were accredited for the elections.

The member of the CEC of Russia also noted that there were many reports of some "terrible and large-scale" violations, but there are no facts indicating such violations.

Answering the question about the legitimacy of "smart voting", Alexander Klyukin explained that there is a ban on forecasts, polls and their publication five days before the voting day.

"Smart voting" undermines this requirement, because the nomination is held on the network before or on the day of voting," noted the member of the CEC of Russia. "This is a direct violation. The ban on campaigning and encouraging voters to vote for a particular person on the day of silence and voting day is also ignored. This is a "grey area". We must think how to regulate this on the Internet."
