‘Rough sex defence’ tycoon who killed lover in sick S&M session to be freed in DAYS after just 22 months in jail

A MILLIONAIRE tycoon who killed his lover during a sick S&M sex session will reportedly be freed in days after spending just 22 months in jail.

John Broadhurst, 41, battered 26-year-old Natalie Connolly to death after the couple spent a day boozing and taking cocaine.

They had “rough sex” on December 18, 2016 and the mum-of-one’s body was later found wearing only a black skirt in Kinver, West Mids.

She was found in a pool of blood at the bottom of her staircase having suffered more than 40 injuries to her head, buttocks and breast.

Broadhurst, a property developer said to be worth £15 million, admitted manslaughter by gross negligence and was jailed for three years and eight months in December 2018.

However, Broadhurst is set to be released this month after serving less than half of his sentence.

Two sources told the Birmingham Mail that Broadhurst will be released early.

Broadhurst launched an appeal against his sentence in November.

At the time, senior Labour figure Harriet Harman said she was “horrified” by the sentence he was given and is understood to be furious about Broadhurst’s appeal.

Wyre Forest Parliamentary candidate Mark Garnier is trying to amend the Domestic Abuse Bill following the shocking case.

The “rough sex” defence states that victims consented to having violent sex that eventually killed them.

The number of accused men using the ‘50 Shades’ defence – so-called after the hit S&M-themed franchise – has rocketed since 2000, campaigners say.

A campaign group found 45 per cent of these cases led to a lesser charge, a lesser sentence or no action at all.

He told the Express & Star: “I’m dumbfounded. The reality of it is John Broadhurst carried out appalling abuse of Natalie Connolly. He doesn’t seem to be a very nice piece of work.

“It will be interesting to see what the outcome of this appeal is going to be.

“Frankly it will be a slap in the face for Natalie, her family and friends if the sentence is reduced. It is simply breathtaking.”

The court heard that Natalie had also suffered horrific internal injuries which were inflicted during a bizarre sex game involving a bottle of carpet cleaner.

Jurors were told how Broadhurst may have wanted to “teach Natalie a lesson” after finding out she had been sending topless pictures to another man on social media.

The trial was told how Natalie called Broadhurst “the boss” and the pair would regularly enjoy S&M sex sessions during which he would smack her bottom with a belt.

They first started an affair while Broadhurst was in a relationship with his pregnant long term partner before eventually getting together in July 2016.

In July, it was announced that the “50 Shades” rough sex defence will finally be banned after MPs backed changing the law.

After clearing the Commons, the defence will finally be outlawed in the new domestic abuse bill.

Justice Secretary Robert Buckland claimed the Government had now delivered on its vow “to make the law crystal clear“.

He said: “We now have it enshrined in statute that no one can consent to serious harm, or indeed their own death, for the purposes of sexual gratification.”
