BGT is the most complained about show this year with 27,006 furious viewers calling Ofcom

BRITAIN’S Got Talent is the most complained about show this year, with 27,006 furious viewers calling Ofcom about the talent show.

The regulatory body has so far declined to take action over the complaints and recently backed the show over Diversity’s controversial Black Lives Matter performance.

The 27,006 complaints far outstrip 2020’s other controversial shows including Bake Off, Good Morning Britain and Sky News.

Fans of the ITV show complained to Ofcom 24,500 times over Ashley Banjo’s dance troupe, 235 times over Amanda Holden’s revealing dress last weekend and 304 times over vicar Allan Finnegan’s risky jokes about funerals.

Ofcom also logged 1,900 calls when judge Alesha Dixon wore a ‘BLM’ necklace – standing for Black Lives Matter – three weeks ago.

Viewers also called up to report a lack of social distancing and to register their fury over an image of caged dogs waiting to be eaten in a Thai market, shown as part of performing dog Miracle’s audition.

Ofcom confirmed to The Sun Online that it was the most complained about series of 2020 – even though Good Morning Britain got over 500 complaints in a week back in May – most of them about Piers Morgan.

In April, Piers’ explosive row with MP Helen Whatley got over 2,000 complaints from viewers accusing him of bullying the Care Minister. He was later cleared by Ofcom but warned over ‘combative presenting’.

Earlier this year, Sky News was hit with 840 complaints about a live broadcast that showed migrants crossing the channel.

Miriam Margoyles was also cleared by Ofcom after 494 people complained about her saying she wanted Boris Johnson ‘to die’ during his coronavirus battle when she appeared on The Last Leg.

“We took into account that Ms Margolyes immediately qualified her comments, and viewers were warned in advance about the programme’s adult humour,” a spokeswoman said.

The Brit Awards live show got over 300 complaints, with viewers furious that rapper Dave called Boris Johnson ‘a racist’.

And 339 people complained about The Great British Bake Off’s opening scenes, where presenter Matt Lucas impersonated and mocked the Prime Minister.
