Euro Paper Talk: Porto irritated by Man Utd, as Woodward fails with left-back plan
Manchester United remain in difficult talks about signing a left-back, while a Tottenham defender is inching closer to a move away – all in the latest Euro Paper Talk.
MAN UTD ATTEMPT NEW LEFT-BACK STRATEGY
Manchester United remain in talks to sign Alex Telles but Porto have become irritated by the club’s negotiating strategy, according to a report.
Left-back has emerged as a priority area to strengthen for United in recent weeks. Indeed while the Red Devils recently took some of their focus away from a new winger, they are working on both fronts ahead of deadline day.
United have already submitted at least one bid for Telles, which fell short of Porto’s asking price.
According to A Bola (via Sport Witness), the Old Trafford club are preparing to up the ante with another proposal.
However their initial transfer offer – of €15million (£13.7million) – will stay the same, with increased performance bonuses to be offered.
Porto though are unwilling to take up that bid, with those bonuses not guaranteed and only scheduled to be paid by United further down the line.
The Portuguese club are keen to recoup their maximum asking price while the opportunity remains. And with Telles in the final year of his contract, the current transfer window is that last chance.
United continue to haggle with Porto, using the player’s contractual situation to try to drive down his price.
Porto however will continue to insist that Telles will not leave for less than €20million (£18.2million).
