CHICAGO — The Chicago Red Stars announced today nominations are now open for the 2020 #SHEINSPIRESME Award. The Chicago Red Stars #SHEINSPIRESME Award is an annual award that is presented to women who exemplify leadership, practice social responsibility, and who inspire and uplift their community.

The 2020 #SHEINSPIRESME Award will have three winners, one from each of the following age groups:

  • Youth (17 and under)
  • Young adult (18-23 years old)
  • Adult (24 and over)

Nominations for the award will be open from October 1 through November 1. Three finalists from each age group will be shared via Red Stars’ social channels. Winners will then be selected by popular vote from supporters and announced Thursday, November 12th. Winners will each receive a #SHEINSPIRESME commemorative plaque, a cash scholarship to continue their work in the community, 2021 season tickets, and autographed Red Stars items.

Previous #SHEINSPIRESME Award recipients include Shannon Smyth and Susan Fritz. Smyth started the first youth girls’ soccer program in Norway and appeared in 35 matches for the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team. Now, along with coaching at North Shore United Soccer Club, Smyth also coaches with TOP Soccer, a soccer program for kids with special needs.

Fritz sits on the Board of Theatre Above the Law, serves as the commissioner of a local free winter football league, and volunteers her time as a Board Member for Girls in the Game. She also participates in a mentoring program that assists local high school girls with the college application process and participates on the grant writing team for ALIVE Rescue.
